About Dr. Todd

Dr. Todd was born in Tucson, AZ and raised in Southern California. He proudly served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, where he made the decision to become a physician.

He attended Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA where he received the Departmental Award in Chemistry. Then he attended the University of California Davis where he graduated with Highest Honors and received a Departmental Citation.

Next, he attended medical school at the University of California San Francisco Medical Campus which he enjoyed very much. After medical school he completed a year of Family Practice Residency in Martinez, CA and then five years of General Surgery Residency at the Kaiser-Permanente Medical Center in Oakland, CA finishing in 1989.

He then went on to complete the East Bay Hand Surgery Fellowship in Oakland, CA and the Hand Surgery Fellowship at the University of Miami. While in Miami, he lived on a boat and sailed the Bahamas. He plans to do so again. His wife is not so sure.

After training, Dr. Todd was in private practice in good standing, specializing in General and Hand Surgery, in Pittsburg, California. He decided, much to the surprise of his partners, to move to Anchorage, AK in the fall of 1998. While there, it became readily apparent that there was a population of morbidly obese patients in need of Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Todd pursued additional education in Bariatric Surgery, culminating with his completion of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery Preceptorship at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, July of 2000. (Please visit the ASBS website at http://www.asbs.org.) He is now seeing patients interested in Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) at his Anchorage office.
