Colette, happy to be of assits...Misty, there is financing through the office.  Call Anita Tuesday and she can tell you about it...The SGM are important.  We can coordinate them with your visits.  It should work out just fine...I don't think you have to wait.  The recovery from the Band is pretty fast (days to a week or so), and your children will benefit from your improved health vigor.

Heartwalk/run
« Reply #46 on: May 01, 2007, 11:54:34 AM »

Hi Dr. Todd,
thank you for sponsoring us for the Heartwalk/run. I was planning on doing the 3 K walk but somehow missed the turn and walked 5 K. I was really tired but it felt good being able to walk that far in a relative short time.

Hi everyone. Sorry I missed the meeting. I am doing well. I am glad to see more posts here. I just read an article on Med Page about the Lap Band. It said that people who get the lap band end up with lowered blood sugars even before they lose a significant amount of weight. I thought that was very encouraging. This is hard work but it is going to be worth it and I know that I am worth it. Thanks for listening. Smiley

I am from Fairbanks and was banded by Dr. Ortiz Feb.'07.  I have returned once to get my first fill of 2cc but still feel no restriction.  I am wanting to become  a patient of A.B.C. so that I can get my band dialed in.  I cannot afford to go to Mexico so often.

So I am wondering what your policies are on this.  I have the doctors notes from surgery and some correspondence from them.

I am very anxious to get some restriction so I can start dropping some weight. I would love get an appointment to come down.

Can you guys help?  Thank You.

Dr. Todd, I was wondering if there is a support group in Soldotna or Kenai that I can go to and is there any work out places here that you can reccomend? Also if any one has any good recipes they would be willing to send, I am in need of something different. I am having a hard time finding different things to eat. Most of the stores do not carry sugar free, fat free/low fat, or low carb foods. thanks, Rebecca

Nootster,

For our policies on new or transfer patients, just give the office a call at 929-4263 for additional information.

Rebecca,

I know there is a group that meets occasionally in Soldotna/Kenai - you can call the office to see if the event gurus up front have any details for you.

As for sugar-free products, I know both Fred Meyer and Carrs has great selections.  Sugar-free foods you can buy include Popsicles (LifeSavers are the best which can only be found at Carrs, and also tropical flavors, regular flavors, creamsicles and fudgesicles), all flavors of pudding and custard, many yogurt flavors, sugar-free drinks likes Crystal Light and Propel.  Low carb isn't the ultimate goal, it is just higher protein and good carb sources (like low fat dairy products, all vegetables and fruits).  If you are looking for snack foods you could buy some string cheese, beef or turkey jerky, or some edemmame beans.

Hi,
one other snack that works great for me are the individual packages of peanuts. I keep them in my purse in case I get too hungry between meals. I also like the string cheese as a snack. One thing I noticed is I have to be careful of what quantity I buy. I start out loving one food and get sick of it really fast.

About the snacks, I was told I could not have any snacks, deserts, breads, a lot of fatty foods or diet soda and only three meals a day totaling 60 grams of protein per day. It is very hard to get the protein without drinking a protein drink and some of them are high in calories and carbohydrates. I am not even to have a lot of peanuts or nuts in general. Low fat or fat free foods are hard to find or are expensive. Tang had their sugar free drink on the shelves for a while and now I am unable to find it. Cristal Light drinks I am getting tired of and Diet Snapple has only one or two kinds of drink available and they are also expensive. Don’t like ice tea or regular coffee (love the smell of coffee) but I do like cappuccinos (not suppose to have). Thank you for the suggestion and if you can think of any thing else, please let me know.
Thanks again.  Rebecca

Hey whats up Doc! I had to try logging in 2 times and the 3rd time it gave me a REPLY button... How strange... I am thinking maybe there is something wrong the message counter or timer... If someone has changed a setting somehow. I know some of those spammers are tricky... I my computer went down a couple months ago from a spy attack... and now I learn to back my system up on a separate hard disk that I disconnect...
